| Thunder Bolt Will Not Touch Down in Daegu
The Bolt camp also announced he would not be running in China either and will instead finish his season at the World Athletics Final, which starts Saturday in Greece, before returning home to Jamaica. The Daegu committee had hoped that Bolt would provide a boost to the event, and had planned to use him to promote the meet, as track and field's most well known athlete. They also thought he could raise the profile of the sport here ahead of the world championships which will be held in Daegu next year. Organizers will now move to a plan B. "We are trying to invite Asafa Powell of Jamaica and Tyson Gay of the United States, but Gay could be a little hard because he has a thigh injury," the committee official said. The list of participants at the Daegu meet will be announced after the World Athletic Final ends.

In Friday night's lopsided matchup against Hammond, the talented running back put plenty of distance between himself and the next great Red Devils' running back who even dares to come close to challenging his career totals. In a mismatch of epic proportions, Lowell ran all over the Wildcats and celebrated homecoming with a 63-0 win as Grubbe rushed for 165 yards on 22 carries and scored five touchdowns. "He's a thoroughbred for us," Lowell coach Kirk Kennedy said. "We're awfully proud of the kid as a football player and as a young man. The line did a good job of blocking for him tonight. Once he gets to the line and gets a block, his athleticism and talent takes over from there." Grubbe has scored 13 touchdowns in the last three weeks which in itself is astounding.
Pallotti pulls out 2 OT victory
0-1) in a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association C Conference game. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Lutheran running back Matt Toscheff for spiking the ball after his touchdown run was the reason for the long extra-point try. It was the fourth dead-ball penalty of the game; the other three were all against Pallotti. "I'm disappointed, and I think he did spike the football, but you hate to see a double overtime game decided on a play like that," Baltimore Lutheran coach Brent Johnson said. Pallotti sophomore quarterback Rafi Correa tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Matt Defrank, also a sophomore, in the second overtime to give the Panthers the lead. Rob Hughes' extra-point kick proved to be the game winner. Lutheran, which won both coin tosses in overtime and deferred both times, responded with a four-play drive that ended with Toscheff's score on fourth-and-goal at the 1.

Kulwicki stopped for a moment, gave Wyatt the eye and told him to run a lap. Wyatt took off running from one end of the gym to the other.“When my dad found out that I was doing this, he asked me why," Kulwicki added. “I told him that I was so lucky to have the healthy body that I have and to have had all the athletic opportunities. I'm grateful and don't want to take it for granted."Things have not been easy for Kulwicki either. He believes he was not blessed with a lot of athletic abilities.“People told me that I'd never play college basketball, but here I am playing basketball at Midland," he said. “Wyatt's doing that, too — proving people wrong about what he can do."For Wyatt, it's about the fun.“We shoot hoops together and play Play Station 2. We pick on each other all the time," Wyatt said.

Farrington cleans up on laundry needs
Each public high school athletic department saw its state allocation for supplies and equipment slashed by 50 percent compared to 2008-2009, part of an overall reduction of more than 36 percent. Farrington's Alumni Association donation was not part of the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association's "SOS" (Save Our Sports) Fund campaign, but money from SOS will go toward similar causes. The SOS Fund's running total has now reached $985,861 after just over nine weeks. That includes this week's $100,000 contribution from the McInerny Foundation, $5,000 gift from Painting Industry of Hawai'i and $3,000 from Kaiser Permanente. All money collected through the SOS Fund will be turned over to the state's Department of Education, which in turn will distribute it to Hawai'i's 55 public high school athletic departments according to a set formula based on student participation.
