| Football primer: League races take shape in Week 6
It's also no secret how Seymour will attempt to attack Shawano, since it has perhaps the best running game in the Bay. Seymour leans on three dynamic running backs in Joey Berg (528 yards, nine touchdowns in league play), Kaleb Jefson (408 yards, 8.5 yards per carry) and Troy Rottier (406 yards, 10.4 ypc), and no team has found a way to limit them. Perhaps the big concern for the Thunder is an offensive line that's battling injuries. "We are starting three different players along the offensive line this week," Molle said. "All of these guys played against Hortonville last week, but we are down three starters on the line at this point. "Our guys have rallied to the cause pretty well." Can Southwest's defense dominate again? Southwest coach Bryce Paup was cautiously optimistic during training camp that his defense would be good in 2009.
Saugus tries to end skid
Quarterback Antuan Goodall, who Bornn said may be the best running quarterback Saugus will see through its first four games, has struggled with passing. He has completed only 40 percent of his passes and has tossed four interceptions.Taft goes with a no-huddle offense and a 3-3-5 defense, but that defense has struggled against the run in two consecutive games. giving up 244 yards to Notre Dame’s Kenneth Boggs and 147 yards to Alemany’s Malcolm Marable in last Friday’s 28-19 loss.Yet Bornn is still concerned about the Toreadors, saying they’re bigger, stronger and faster than the Cents."It’s one of those games, if we show up like we did last week against Newbury Park, it’s going to be a long game," Bornn said, noting that his team didn’t seem mentally into it.The schedule isn’t any kinder as another ranked team, Crespi, follows next week.
Someone had a worse day than Cal
Best wasn't even the best running back on the field, forget the country, and Riley looked lost. The Bears under Tedford have never figured out how to cover good tight ends. ... I could go on and on, but the worst thing about the loss was that Cal quit. Yeah, the No. 6 ranking was way too high, and, yeah, Autzen Stadium is a tough place to play, but 42-3? I am not even sure a win over USC this week could get rid of that stench. ... OK, it probably would. .
Five new members added to ISU Athletics Hall of Fame
Wright was one of the most prolific running backs in ISU history. Wright is still ranked number one in school history for average career rushing yards per attempt in a, most all-purpose yards gained during a season, and best average per play for a season. With two season over one thousand yards rushing, Wright is one of the most prolific players in ISU history. "The class this year is outstanding, not just on the field," said Athletic director Ron Prettyman, "but off of it as community members." "I really like this class- they are all humbled by going in there," Sherman said. "You just love calling these people and hearing their reactions that they are in the Sycamore hall of fame." The five Hall of Fame Sycamores will be introduced and recognized at the ISU vs.
