Mules breeze by Truman State 38-3

The Mules (5-1, 3-1 MIAA) answered that with a lightning fast three-play, 80-yard touchdown drive. Junior running back Anthony Stewart started the possession with a 56-yard tote, followed by two carries from Ken Hedrington, including the 15-yard scoring gallop. The drive took just 1:05. Stewart had a monster day, with 235 all-purpose yards, including 89 on the ground, and a school-record 146 yards receiving by a running back. The old record was set last season, when Glenn Milner had 114 receiving yards against Emporia State. TSU backup quarterback Taylor Breen--starting for the injured Phillip Davis--left the game after taking a big hit from junior defensive end Jeremy Wallace early in the second quarter, forcing the Bulldogs to bring in redshirt freshman Caleb Roberts. In his first snap, the exchange between him and running back Anton Bernard was fumbled, and junior bandit backer Karl Parker picked it up and ran it to the TSU 24.

Irish lean on Tate to make big plays

Tate was also used as a running back and took the snap in the Wildcat formation against the Boilermakers.

The creative uses of Tate produced good results against Purdue. Along with his five catches for 57 yards, he ran for 57 yards on nine carries with a touchdown. Tate also returned a punt for 16 yards.

“Golden really played his butt off last week and did everything he could to help the team,” receivers coach Rob Ianello said. “We are just trying to maximize our playmakers on offense, whoever they are. I think that is what you should be doing as an offensive staff.”

The absence of Floyd and running back Armando Allen (sprained ankle) against Purdue landed Tate at running back.

Tate played the position in high school and was recruited as a running back by Notre Dame.

No. 5 Tribe's Winning Streak Snapped with 28-17 Loss at No. 2

After recovering a Tribe fumble, Villanova moved the ball 29 yards in just three play plays to go ahead, 21-3, when running back Angelo Babbaro scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with 1:53 remaining in the half. The College responded, however, when Pate kicked a 28-yard field goal as time expired to cut the margin to 21-6 at the half. A 20-yard run by Grimes put W&M in the red zone and helped set up the score. W&M held a 220-202 advantage in total yards at the half, but were hurt by a pair of turnovers and 40 yards of penalties. Individually, Grimes led all ball carriers with 68 yards on nine carries (7.6 yards per rush), while McAulay and Hill both had four catches for 73 and 46 yards, respectively. The Green and Gold opened the second half with a time-consuming 15-play, 48-yard drive that lasted 7:32 and ended with a 29-yard field goal by Pate to narrow the gap to 21-9.
