| SUV left running in St. Petersburg apartment garage; three
PETERSBURG — Three people were hospitalized with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning Sunday after a vehicle was left running in the garage of an apartment building. According to authorities, a Nissan sport utility vehicle was running overnight in a garage at the Promenade at Carillon. Emergency workers responded to 540 Carillon Parkway shortly after 6:30 a.m. after getting a 911 call about a sick person. Upon arrival, paramedics found two people exhibiting signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. They were treated, taken to Largo Medical Center and later released. Firefighters pulled the fire alarm to evacuate the building. They searched 28 apartments and evacuated more than 58 residents. Looking for the source of the gas, firefighters searched eight garages using a thermal imaging camera.
Election race begins for Board of Trustee candidates
Richard James Lugo is a retired aerospace employee running for a position on the Board of Trustees that has been held by the same person for almost 30 years. He is running for a spot as a representative for Area 1, which covers the cities of Azusa, Covina, Glendora, and Irwindale. Lugo, a life-long resident of Azusa, graduated from Citrus College 20 years to the day of graduating from Azusa High School. He has worked for a publishing company, coached Little League baseball, helped with youth football programs, and is currently owner of Azusa Youth Boxing Club. Lugo is running against Gary Woods, an incumbent who has been on the board since 1982. Lugo said he would like to "bring a fresh outlook to this campus and hopefully move things forward into the 21st Century," meaning he would like to see "more preparation for students in the growing green competitive sector." A priority he believes the college should focus on is the abilities of counselors to educate students about tutors, libraries, and resources available to them on campus.
Track Team Season Outlook: Fast
Which will it be: run as quickly as possible until the race is over and the runners are free to rest, or jump while running and clap in the air until the race is over and the runners can rest or choose to keep on jumping? Running in Heels and Lost Land of the Volcano
Right now, he's watching a programme called Running in Heels (E4) about his old colleague, Joanna Coles, and the magazine where she now works. It's not her who's running in heels; it's everyone else. Joanna is why they're running. She's editor-in-chief of Marie Claire in New York – basically Queen of the World. Here she is in her apartment, packing to go to fashion week in Paris. Actually, Dana, her personal stylist, is packing; Joanna is directing the packing. But, she explains, that doesn't make her a diva. Sometimes, she has to change outfits four or five times a day; that's upwards of 30 outfits in one week. Dana's a necessity, not an accessory. In the Marie Claire offices, Joanna (Colesy, as she was once called at the Guardian, like a footballer, but I don't think anyone calls her that here) only needs to raise a perfectly plucked eyebrow and well-groomed women and camp men scuttle around, hoping to guess what that raised eyebrow meant.
Roadmasters challenge you to go the distance
Participants can pre-register for the Run/Walk at the AIDS Foundation on Delancy Street. "The whole idea is we want to get as many persons out to come and support this cause, so if you're an avid runner/walker, we invite you to come on out and you can do 10 to 20 miles," said Denise Mortimer, one of the 20-year-old group's original members. The group has added a new feature to this year's event. Two to four person relay teams may sign up to participate. Last year the Charity Run/Walk attracted 70 people. Eager to begin the journey, the group assembled before dawn at Montagu Beach with the final lap already in sight. In addition to water and energy drinks along the way, participants were given snacks and breakfast on their return to Montagu. Mortimer, who achieved her personal goal of running 14 miles, said that she had enjoyed the event.
International help sought in search for missing teen
In normal missing-person cases, investigators have a clear direction to follow within hours, he said. "But in this case, for over two weeks now, there's no direction in the investigation except that she's gone missing." Her family has said Mariam was enjoying life in her new country. They describe her as a calm, shy and level-headed girl for whom running away would be highly out of character. Police have been in contact with a friend of Mariam's in her homeland of Georgia, and that person has indicated it's strange Mariam hasn't tried to make contact with anyone. "It's strange that if she's alive and out there, she wouldn't contact someone who would then contact police," Vella said, adding, "Nobody just vanishes. It's just going to take a matter of time." Vella also noted this: "A lot of people are speculating, but we're hoping to get some evidence." Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-5300, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, or text TOR and a message to CRIMES (274637).
