Berlin Tradition Dances Through SF
When the San Francisco version of Berlin's long-running Love Parade made its debut four years ago, nearly 40,000 revelers turned out for a celebratory dance-music party that filled downtown streets. Though it may be far smaller than the Berlin electronic festival was at its peak (an estimated 1.5 million attended in 2000), the inaugural San Francisco event proved to be a positive, one-of-a-kind experience for everyone involved. Rechristened once again for the 2009 edition, this year's San Francisco LovEvolution parade and festival will once again pack thousands into the Civic Center for the celebration. This year's line-up of parade floats features plenty of hometown flavor with a variety of SF-based clubs, DJ collectives, record labels and party producers such as [KONTROL], Supperclub, Spundae, Qool, TempleSF, Pink, Ruby Skye, Triple Crown, Om Records, Anon Salon and Space Cowboys participating.
Racers flock to second Whistler Spirit Run
More than 150 runners bounded through the courses set for Saturdays cross-country races, which were geared toward organized running groups such as clubs and teams from elementary and high schools and universities, as well as masters athletes. The biggest single team that came to the Spirit Run hailed from Victorias Oak Bay High School, a public school that sent 39 kids to run in the Olympic Park, Whistler Spirit Run board member Peter Diemer said. Diemer said every event showed an increase in entries, as organizers this year stepped up efforts to spread the word about the running festival through media such as newspapers and radio, and social media tools like Facebook and Twitter accounts. Participation by corridor athletes also rose, Diemer added. Its been an amazing weekend.
Abbots Langley Tough Ten annual race set for this Sunday
Running enthusiasts grab your sports shoes this Sunday, for the annual Abbots Langley Tough Ten race. With special guest Watford and England manager Graham Taylor returning to open proceedings, it is not too late to join this year's event, which has already received a record number of registrations. Entry is still open to all, but runners hoping to apply on the day are encouraged to leave plenty of time for registration at the Community Centre, in the High Street, Abbots Langley. The race, originally started to raise money for MENCOP 27 years ago, now also helps local clubs and charities continue their good work, assisting schools with special projects, as well as helping improve the quality of life for beneficiaries. This year's event will include two additional races, a 5k and 3k, with the minimum age for 3k starting at nine years old.
