| Rybak casually announces he's running for Governor
This morning, RT Rybak casually announced he's running for governor to City Pages at the AFL-CIO forum held at the Ramada Inn. While waiting to take the stage alongside the other DFL gubernatorial candidates, and Mayor Chris Coleman, he took the time to come up and shake City Pages's hand. It was in this brief moment he allowed his mouth to slip out the words many wanted to hear. .

EcoCAR Challenge Throttles into Year Two
Rather than being a forum to generate production-ready new, alternative vehicle technologies, the EcoCAR challenge is really about fostering a breeding ground for up and coming engineers, introducing them to key technologies and indoctrinating them in real-world design processes. "While the technologies that go into the vehicles are definitely cutting edge, we don't think one of these vehicles is going to change the world or outperform GM," says Mike Walstrum, control and simulation engineer at the Argonne National Lab. "We're trying to acclimate students to the real-world environment. Our goal is to develop engineers of the future who can really hit the ground running and start their careers off by developing environmentally friendly automotive applications." To that end, the teams are settling into year two of the competition, focused on the testing and validation stage of their designs.
Seifert is top GOP pick for governor in straw poll
All the candidates had their chance to address the crowd at a forum Friday and in speeches Saturday. The list of contenders also includes environmentalist Leslie Davis, Rep. Paul Kohls of Victoria, Sen. Michael Jungbauer of East Bethel, Republican activist Phil Herwig and former state legislator Bill Haas. They were bested in the straw poll not just by Seifert, Emmer, Anderson and Hann, but also by votes for "none." Delegates also heard from party officials about their party's new energy and new strategies to bring it back to power. Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who appears to be gearing up for a 2012 race for president, is not running for a third term, and told GOP convention delegates it's time to pass the baton. .
Catch Both Escapist Pokemon Quizzes!
Take a quick look around the forums and you'll find more than one thread discussing this long-running series about oh-so-cute pocket monsters and their trainers. It seems that you folks know quite a bit about Pokemon. Care to put it to the test? If you're not a devout Pokefan, you may want to stick to our Normal Pokemon Quiz, which is tailored for the more casual player. If you've ever had a serious discussion about assembling a dream Poketeam, however, you may want to give the Impossible quiz a try. Or just take both. We don't judge. Both quizzes draw from both the Pokemon games and the anime series and, as usual, you are being timed. You can take as long as you like, but your time will affect your position on the leaderboard. Good luck! Our thanks to Sevre90210, who helped create these quizzes! Got a quiz of your own you'd like to submit? Send it to susan@escapistmag.com.
Rakestraw In District 4, and Other Endorsements
With a woman mayor and five women councilmembers, it would appear the status of women in Greensboro is that they are running the show, but Lapham said the commission is still necessary. Lapham talks a lot about process, noting that everyone wants what is best for Greensboro, but it is just a question of how you get there. Lapham has an undergraduate degree in chemistry, a PhD in philosophy and is an interfaith minister. She is a delight to talk to, but she is far too liberal for this paper to support. First time candidate Max Benbassat is a nice young man who has lived in Greensboro for about a year and a half. That probably isn't long enough to be a really good councilmember. We know he is hardworking because he missed the Unity Forum, his one chance to face his primary opponents in front of a good sized crowd, because he had a chance to work overtime at the textile company that is owned by his family.
