Richard James Lugo is a retired aerospace employee running for a position on the Board of Trustees that has been held by the same person for almost 30 years. He is running for a spot as a representative for Area 1, which covers the cities of Azusa, Covina, Glendora, and Irwindale. Lugo, a life-long resident of Azusa, graduated from Citrus College 20 years to the day of graduating from Azusa High School. He has worked for a publishing company, coached Little League baseball, helped with youth football programs, and is currently owner of Azusa Youth Boxing Club. Lugo is running against Gary Woods, an incumbent who has been on the board since 1982. Lugo said he would like to "bring a fresh outlook to this campus and hopefully move things forward into the 21st Century," meaning he would like to see "more preparation for students in the growing green competitive sector." A priority he believes the college should focus on is the abilities of counselors to educate students about tutors, libraries, and resources available to them on campus.

Thornton hands Redskin first grid loss
When you face a team that has a running back who averages 181 yards per game, you obviously focus on him. And to no surprise, that's exactly what Thornton's game plan was. And it paid off as they held Shawn Goodrich to just 17 yards in nine tries. The highly favored Golden Trojans led by only 7-0 after the first quarter, but erupted for three touchdowns in the second quarter for a 28-0 halftime lead on their way to a 48-0 rout to improve to 4-0. "They overwhelmed us—they dominated us in every phase of the game, and not enough good things happened for us early," said Sanford coach Mike Fallon. "If you have to lose, you 'd like to do it in a more competitive way," he added. The Redskins knew they'd have difficulty matching up with Thornton, a team loaded with talent, but had hoped to have made it a lot closer.

There were rides, games of chance, livestock, music and vendors for the three-day annual event.Ed Backiel of Rocky Hill knew his frog, named Silly, would win the frog jump, even though he had just found his new pet Saturday morning. That’s because he was the only entrant in the children’s frog jump."He won first place in the frog jump at the Hebron Fair, so he decided he wanted to try again," said Ed’s mother, Karen Backiel. "But there they provided the frog."Carrying Silly in a small clear plastic cage, Ed reached in and placed the squirming amphibian on the dot on the blacktop. Silly sat still for a moment, then, with a little prodding from Ed, jumped. He jumped two more times, all in a straight line, for a total of two feet, eight inches. David Yadich, the Lion’s Club district governor and official judge of the event, gave Ed $25 and a blue ribbon. The turtle race was a bit more competitive.

Wagner scores three TDs in fourth quarter to defeat Lincoln 36-18
"When Trevor (Ellam) is the running the ball for us, the opposition always has to key on him," said Rodriguez, who had just five rushes for 13 yards before the outburst. "I’m the second or third option. But our offensive line did a tremendous job opening up the holes and I just put my head down and followed them. It was the biggest possession of the game and our line came up huge." Rodriguez hit William Echevarria for the two-point conversion, and the Falcons had a 20-18 lead, their first of the contest. Wagner followed with an onside kick that was executed to perfection and took control of the ball Lincoln 22-yard line. Again Rodriguez took charge with rushes of 11 and 4 yards, then handed off to Ellam for the final seven yards and just like that the Falcons had a 28-18 advantage midway through the final stanza.
