Flu Patients Flood Children's Hospitals

Moran brought her son, Justin Ream, 14, to see a doctor after he started coughing, running a fever and had trouble breathing.

"I feel real terrible, just awful," Ream said. "I think it's crazy. Over half my school is out with swine flu."

Hospital managers said they might soon force overworked doctors and nurses to take time off if the current pace continues.

They said they fear the problem may only get worse because the normal height of flu season is still weeks away.

Also, the Texas Department of State Health Services said Wednesday that the swine flu vaccines are expected to trickle in slower than planned.

Some 3.4 million doses of the vaccine were projected for Texas by mid-October, but the latest estimates are only half that amount will be available.

UK time-trial round-up: Hill climb season in full swing

Oldham then took over, and after building a good lead suffered a unique mechanical problem – the batteries in his lights were running out. But as he slowed the pace slightly, it mattered little and he crossed the line 16 seconds ahead of Sport Beans-Wilier ace Will Bjergfelt, with Oldham's team-mate Dave Collins third, inches behind.

Win Willy stretches out at Hoosier

"After running his best sprint race I would expect him to run his best long. If he does that I think they will have their hands full."

Win Willy shipped to Hoosier on Thursday and was scheduled to gallop Friday, according to Robertson.

Misremembered, trained by Bob Baffert, has won 3 of 6 career starts, but has never started outside of Southern California.

He was second in the Grade 3 Affirmed on June 20 and then won the Grade 2 Swaps on July 18. Baffert ran Misremembered in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar in his last out Sept, 6, but he faded late to finish 10th after chasing the pace. This will be his first attempt on dirt. Regular rider Victor Espinoza will ride.

Despite the Odds will add blinkers for trainer Michael Trombetta in hopes of regaining the form he showed in June, when he won the Grade 3, off-the-turf Hill Prince at Belmont by 7 1/2 lengths.

Haas shatters Northville-Placid Trail speed record

The founder of the Adirondack Trail Running Club, Haas carried only 12 pounds in his backpack and ran what he estimated was half the distance of the trail. His essentials included a locator beacon, cell phone, small stove, high powered headlamp, Swiss Army knife, duct tape and a Steripen, which uses ultraviolet light to purify water.

For meals, Haas ate dehydrated rice and beans, cheddar mashed potatoes, pasta and even downed two slices of cold pizza. He snacked on Gu, beef jerky, Snickers, a Clif bar, Fritos, fireballs and made tea when he needed a caffeine kick.

Haas slept only six hours during the trek. During his two-hour naps, he laid down on a 3/8 inch-thick foam pad, bundling up in a sleeping bag liner wrapped in an emergency space bag.

"It was enough to keep me warm for a couple of hours, and then I would wake up with a lot of moisture," Haas said.

Blog: As Steady As Reddy

Personally, I believe the best spot for Mile is an attacking winger; driving up the sides and sending in crosses, or running into the channels and hitting long-range shots. Even if his shots only hit a player or the crossbar, you wouldn't bet against someone like Branko picking up the scraps.

If Mile was to move back to the wings though, who then takes his place up front assuming the same formation is maintained? The options look something like this:

Jamie Harnwell. Currently out for an extended period, so unlikely to be an immediate option, what Harnwell lacks in pace and technique he makes up for in aerial supremacy and pure heart. Harnwell also has the 'X Factor'; when he is on the pitch for the Glory, stuff just happens. Exhibit A: Josh McCloughan! Anthony Skorich.

Distance running great misses out on world record

The distance running legend set new world records at the Berlin event in each of the last two years but warm weather scuppered his attempt this time around.

Gebrselassie led from the front throughout the race and at one point a new record mark seemed possible for the Ethiopian.

But his pace dropped off in the latter stages of the race and the 36-year-old eventually finished with a time of two hours, six minutes and eight seconds, just over two minutes outside his record mark.

Kenyan Francis Kiprop finished 58 seconds behind to take second place while Negari Terfa was third in a time of 2:07:41.

Hard

After the race, Gebreselassie admitted that he was made to pay for his quick opening towards the end of the 42-kilometre course through the German capital.

Shelly joins the runners

“That would be good for me in my condition as I do have to walk a bit.

“I Love Swindon because of the lovely runs, the spaces, the walks are ideal and plenty of footpaths. I feel safe running around on my own and people are so friendly when you are running."

Shelley works as a greeter at the North Swindon store. She has worked there since it opened eight years ago.

She is also in charge of the wheelchairs and the electric scooters.

“Our scooters have gone missing; we have found them as far Moredon," she said. “The police have phoned us. We've had to get a taxi to go and get them because they run out of power. I think it must be children joyriding. We've had one scooter involved in a road accident with the police. The police kept it at the police station all smashed up."

Shelley is on her feet for 21 hours a week at work and then in her spare time trains for marathons.
