Blue Devils run over Bulldogs

The Blue Devils (5-0, 3-0 Capital) were just as good on defense, holding the Bulldogs (2-2, 1-1 Capital) to just 91 yards of total offense. Big Spring managed only three first downs — none after the second quarter — on its rainy homecoming night. Schaeffer reaches end zone G-A started the game with the ball and put together a methodical 11-play, 77-yard drive that was all on the ground. Schaeffer and Richard Pfannebecker combined for 68 of those yards, and Schaeffer's one-yard plunge with 7:11 on the clock, followed by Christian Hoover's PAT, gave the Blue Devils a 7-0 lead.

Two of Big Spring's three first downs came in the Bulldogs' opening drive, including a 43-yard run by Austin Coyle to the G-A 37-yard-line on their second play.

Their drive fizzled in the red zone, however, as they turned the ball over on downs after consecutive stops by G-A's Josh Short, Todd DeWalt and Gerardo Juarez.

Illusion SC secure Mayaro title

Illusion Sports Club are the 2009 champions of the bpTT Mayaro Football League (MFL), after edging Mayaro Spurs 2-1 in the League decider last week at Mayaro Recreation Ground.

Rickey Pope secured the trophy for Illusion with a pair of goals during the top-of-the-table clash, the win pushing his team to an unassailable 28 points.

Prolific striker Carlon Hughes was once again on target for Spurs, but the equaliser eluded them when it mattered most.

Illusion earned their title with an impressive record of nine wins, with a single loss and one draw from their 11 outings.

Spurs, runners-up in the 2008 League to Mandingo United, faltered late in their campaign, losing their last two matches, including a 2-1 beating by Mayguaya United, who are now in the running for a second-spot finish.

Mastercraftsman romps at Dundalk, eyes Breeders' Cup

The Diamond is one of 11 European races in the Breeders' Cup Challenge, guaranteeing the winner a place in the Breeders' Cup Marathon, but O'Brien has his sights on another prize at Santa Anita, either the $2 million Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) or the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) on November 7.

Mastercraftsman rolled to a five-length victory over Fiery Lad (Mull of Kintyre) in the extended 10-furlong ace on Polytrack.

"I'm delighted with that performance," Ireland's champion trainer said. "There was no pussy-footing around and they went a very strong gallop. Johnny (Murtagh), as per usual, kept very cool and he knows the horse better than anyone.

"You'd have to be very impressed with that performance and Johnny said when he went to follow the leaders he probably got there a bit too soon.
