The view pans to the side and gazes upward as other youths bound and flee like desperate quarry atop the tin roofs of shanties. Yet the protagonists cannot shake this predator off their trail. Unblinking and seemingly uncut, the camera shot continues to pursue the boys until the movie's end.To eyes blinded by convention, the film Engkwentro (Clash) is just one long continuous shot, a complete disregard for the art of montage. But director Jose Lorenzo “Pepe" Diokno's method is his very message.It is a film about adolescent gang members targeted by death squad hired to further a zealous mayor's anti-crime campaign—an all-too-real narrative taken from today's news. The lens stalks the protagonists like the hidden camera of a police informant, an investigative reporter or a reality show host.
Former Sunderland striker Michael Bridges Jets in to sign for
'To be in the Australian A-League again, I still felt like I could offer something and get up and running again.' Bridges admitted he enjoyed his time with Sydney but is looking forward to the relaxed atmosphere at Newcastle. 'I've been very, very impressed with the area and the people have made us feel really welcome,' he added. 'Obviously my time at Sydney, it was a bit hectic the lifestyle down there, so I've found since I've been up here that I love the place.' Bridges had a brief spell with the Tyneside Newcastle as well as playing for Bolton, Bristol City, Carlisle United and Hull City. .
Centra and Garry's Gym launch Clogher charity 10K
Owner John McDade, his staff and the team at Garry's Gym in the town have joined forces to plan the 10K running event and walk for Clogher, which will take place on Saturday, September 12th. The registration fee paid by participants will benefit Action Cancer's Health Action health programme for young people, which is sponsored by Centra and its 86 independent retail partners across Northern Ireland. Health Action has been designed to educate young people on healthier lifestyles, including exercise, healthy eating and the dangers of smoking and alcohol. The fee will also benefit Marie Curie Cancer Care in recognition of the great work that they do with cancer patients as Garry from the gym, who lost his mother to the illness, can testify. John McDade called for runners and walkers to join the event.
Registration now open for Pink October Run
THE registration for the 3k, 5k and 10k �Pink October Run� on Oct. 4 is now open. The assembly time for the �Pink October Run� is at 5 a.m. at the Terraces of the Ayala Center Cebu Mall. The run will start at 6 a.m. There will also be a 1K walk around the Cebu Business Park. �We hope to increase awareness among the public on the early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. We also believe that running is one of the best forms of promoting a healthy lifestyle,� said Fun Run chairman Dr. Peter Mancao. �We also would like to encourage the participants and their family to attend the Lay Forum on Breast Cancer awareness during the post race program,� he added. The run is jointly organized by the Philippine College of Surgeons Cebu - Eastern Visayas Chapter, Ayala Center Cebu Mall, I Can Serve Group and the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente.
